Christmas at Basildon Park: Lights & Liminality
17 November, 2021 - 5 January, 2022
This season at Basildon Park they will be offering visitors quality time with all nature has to offer, in the setting of the grand house as well as the historic woodland.
Discover new ways to explore light and space as we usher nature indoors and enjoy the sensory delights of winter. Then, go outside to enjoy the illuminated woodland. Younger children will have fun following Percy the Park keeper’s winter wander trail around the grounds.
See how nature can be repurposed inside the house, with the staircase hall adorned with a forest of pine trees.
Step through old thresholds into new fantastical memories by booking an exclusive Candlelight Evening Tour of the house.
Sense the wonder of the plants and animals that call Basildon Park home as you forage for craft-making materials in the Illuminated Wintry Woodland or on our self-led trail experiences.
What new perspectives will you find with this Winter?
‘Christmas at Basildon Park: Lights & Liminality’ runs from 17 Nov – 5 Jan (property closed on 24 & 25 Dec). Please check their website homepage for opening times.
Inside Basildon Park House
This year the house will be transformed into a winter wonderland, with a forest of pine trees adorning the Staircase Hall and the Dining Room transformed into an indoor terrarium. As you step inside you’ll be transported into a liminal space, where nature fills the interior of the main showrooms. With the sounds of woodland animals, the feel of trees brushing past you and the smell of dried oranges and cinnamon, the house will be a delight for the senses.
Illuminated Wintry Woodland
Liminality is all about transition – the old, the new, and what that space in between might offer us. The Illuminated Wintry Woodland next to the Stableyard takes a space full of shadow and mystery throughout the Autumn months, and transforms it into a space of Winter hope and reflection. Not to mention, a fantastic festive photo opportunity!
