If you want your teenager to hang out with you then head to Junkyard Golf Club at the Westgate Centre in Oxford. It’s has it’s own entrance from Castle Street and as you descend down into the indoor crazy golf, it’s like going into a nightclub.
Disco lights, pumping music and three wacky 9-hole mini golf courses await. We tried out all three, there’s an easy, medium and hard.
We started with ‘Gary’ which is the easiest course and my favourite. A great warm up and the novelty of the creative course was brilliant. Not sure you if you’re meant to go down the slide after hitting your ball down but all three of mine did!
This course also has a brilliant UV room, I had a good old boogie to the music in here much to the embarrassment of my kids but luckily it’s pretty quiet in the day and there was nobody to see my mum dancing. It’s the closest I’ve been to a nightclub in a long time.
Pablo is the medium difficultly crazy golf course, with a jungle theme. Each hole is very different and the competitive streak was in full force with my boys. I was worried my almost 8 year old might struggle but despite his own unique technique he got on a really well.
Watch out for gruesome spiders, fiersome bears and exploding volancoes along the way.
We had a break before tackling the last mini golf course. There’s a bar serving a wide range of drinks and a few snacks (pizza twists and nachos).
They’ve got a pretty epic cocktail list including mocktails if you’re there in the day with kids or driving. Under 18’s can only play Sunday to Friday until 7pm and I reckon this would make a great mums night out when you’re kid free.
We finished our visit by tackling the hardest of the courses – BOZO. It has a wonderfully creepy cirucs theme complete with skulls on a fairground wheel, clowns, and a hall of mirrors.
My boys all managed just fine on the course although my youngest was getting a little fractious by the end trying to keep up with his big brothers.
Junkyard Golf at the Westgate Centre in Oxford is air conditioned too (we went on a very hot day so this was a welcome relief). We really enjoyed our time here and it will definitely be one we visit again. My eldest is already saying he wants to take his friends here next year for his birthday.
