Ice painting is a cheap and easy summer craft project – perfect for a hot and sunny day! Painting on ice blocks is fascinating as you watch the paint freeze and melt again on the surface. The paint colours start to run and mix together as the ice melts.
You will need:
- Plastic tubs
- Water
- Paint and brushes
How to do ice painting:
- Freeze the tubs of water the day before.
- When ready to paint, pop the ice blocks out and set out on a tray.
- Paint on the ice surface. We used watercolour paint palettes. The watery paint froze on the surface initially then melted and the colours started to run and mix as the ice melted. You could pop the ice block pack into the tub and re-freeze if you want to preserve your artwork for a bit longer!
- You can make a fun print by pressing a bit of paper onto the painted surface.
